Our Intergenerational Playgroup program provides a unique opportunity for young
children to learn and play, promote interaction with the older generations and
build relationships across generations. Intergenerational Playgroups are open to
families with children aged birth to 5 years and are operating across the ACT in a
variety of aged care facilities.

The Intergenerational Playgroups provide
mutual benefits to all generations

  • Encourage friendship across generations
  • Promote early childhood social and physical development
  • Provide a vital opportunity for isolated residents and parents to connect through positive community interactions.
  • Foster understanding and build respect between generations
  • Share senior’s parenting knowledge and experiences with younger parents
  • Increase parental peer support networks
  • Increase in dignity, particularly with seniors who have dementia
  • Increase in longer lasting joy and happiness

Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds ABC TV series

Playgroup Australia and ACT Playgroups has partnered with OPAN for the ‘Stay Connected and Supported in Your Community’ campaign in association with ABC TV + iview’s award-winning documentary series Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds. The delightfully inspiring season two, follows a group of older adults living alone who join a group of lively 4-year-olds in an intergenerational play school for learning, connection and friendship.

In the midst of social distancing and lockdown, we need human connections, to be seen and to see others. Our intergenerational families have worked hard to keep up those connections. Listen to the ABC post and how we have overcome those boundaries.
