Early Intervention Playgroups

Early Intervention playgroups are designed to support the journey of families with young children with additional needs.

ACT Playgroups have been running early intervention playgroups in the Canberra area for over ten years under the MyTime and PlayConnect banners. Each playgroup is run by qualified staff with support from other therapy based organisations.

Our early intervention playgroups are for children aged birth – 5 years. They are free, fun, interactive, evidence based and accessible to all. All family members, including siblings and carers, are encouraged to attend.

Early intervention playgroups address the unique needs of each individual child as well as providing parents with the tools and strategies to help their child reach their full potential.

These playgroups not only provide important play-based skills, development and developmental opportunities for young children with additional needs but also offer peer and parenting support for the adults attending.

The playgroups run for two hours most mornings in various locations around Canberra.

MyTime playgroups are for children with additional needs, or chronic illness. Children in our MyTime groups have had genetic disorders, hearing loss, mobility issues, developmental delay, and a variety of other needs.

PlayConnect playgroups are aimed at children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or ASD type symptoms. No diagnosis is required to attend these playgroups.

All our early intervention playgroups run outside of the NDIS and no plan or referral is needed to attend.

Our parents have the following to share about these playgroups:

“Informative, empowering and encouraging”

“Early Intervention Playgroup gives me an outlet. Coming to this Playgroup is a highlight of our week. My daughter is happy and so am I.”

“Coming to playgroup has helped motivate me to be a stronger advocate for my son and has assisted to build resilience in me in order for this to happen.”

“It was awesome and inspiring – Thank you!”
