During Children’s Week, 21 – 29 October 2017, many organisations will be celebrating children with special events and in-house activities. The full program of events can be found on the ACT Children’s Week website, but here are just a few that are open to the public:
Monday 23/10/2017, 10am – 11:30am – The Weston Intergenerational playgroup will be holding a gardening playgroup. Mirinjani residents and playgroup families will work together to plant and decorate two garden beds that they can continue to cultivate in coming months/years.
Monday 23rd, Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th, Friday 27th October 2017, 10am-12pm – Jerrabomberra Playgroup will run various activity tables for playgroup families.
Tuesday 24/10/17, 10am – 1pm – ACT Playgroups will be holding its annual PlayFEST – a fun few hours of free activities for the children and lots of information from community organisations, businesses and sporting bodies for the adults. This is our biggest event of the year and always a fantastic day, rain or shine!
Tuesday 24/10/2017, 2pm – Mandarin for Fun Playgroup will host a family fun day in the park to increase awareness of the importance of teaching young children Mandarin. They will run some Chinese culture activities and teach a few simple Chinese phrases.
Wednesday 25/10/17, 10am – 11:15am – Suomi-Kerho/Finnish Playgroup will host a morning tea for anyone with a Finnish back ground or Finnish interests. Come along and see how future generations are being empowered by language and culture through books, songs and play.
Thursday 26/10/2017, 10:00 am -12-00 pm – UnitingCare Kippax are putting on a community event for 0-5s with craft, physical, music, and story telling activities and information sharing.
Thursday 26/10/2017, 6- 8pm – Tuggeranong Arts Centre will host Dr Stephanie Owen Reader – author of 10 children’s books including the Heritage Heroes series.
Friday 27/10/2017, 4.30pm – Eclaireurs de Canberra Scout Group will celebrate their 1st anniversary. They are organising a small party to highlight their commitments to children and their involvement in the community.
Saturday 28/10/2017, 11am – 1pm – ACT Bilingual Education Alliance are holding a potluck lunch for culturally and linguistically diverse families. Join in children’s songs, games and other free fun language activities. Everyone invited to bring a dish of their favourite food to share.
